Businesses can do much more for the environment than just buying green products or the installation of solar water heaters. Although the purchase and use of these products is very useful and should be part of the list of activities for all the world, organizations have the opportunity to have a greater impact. Most organizations are now running processes that are paper-intensive. Here are a few ways that processes can be modified to reduce the paperwork that flows within, into and through the company. By incorporating these processes, companies can reduce costs, improve productivity, improve relations with the customers, improve employee morale, and meet compliance requirements of business together to make a real impact on your carbon footprint.

Some People like to talk about the "paperless office", but in reality difficult to achieve. Despite this, there are things that organizations can and should do to reduce the volume of paper flowing through the organizations and the exit of customers or citizens. We need to start thinking about how we do things, not just the things we buy.

Think process, not technology. In itself, no technology on earth will reduce the role, we must examine these processes in our organizations, that are paper intensive. Following a unique process from beginning to end, one can identify which documents are needed, and whether this step in the process could improve the use technology.

If we can manage the process electronically, and for many organizations in the immediate temptation is implementing a digitization project. This is not in itself a bad thing, May and resolve the physical flow of paper through the office. The challenge we have is not undone the paper. Still flows in the mailroom, where it is collected and digitized, and then often stored in their original paper format. Thus, despite an improvement in the process Internally, we do not solve environmental problems. To this was added the most out of the process remain as printed paper.

Analyze the process should involve understanding of the nature of the flow of documents. While most of the incoming documents are in paper format, then the organization must find ways to reduce this. At least three current technology, will help a lot here. E-Commerce enables the transfer of information between organizations and systems without which became paper during the process. Finally, the use of fax servers or routers can help in sending the fax-mail directly to the target computer.

The technology already exists, so it is our thinking that is the limiting factor yet. Negotiating with the business of our customers and suppliers, will change, carefully implemented policies, and a phased approach to the green process will lead us a long way towards improving the effectiveness of our organizations at a lower cost and a cooler climate.
